  • What is "concierge assessment"?
In a concierge assessment model, client convenience is prioritized. Instead of asking you to drive yourself or your children to a clinic at an inconvenient time, Dr. Matteson will come to you (virtually for some assessments; to your actual home for others) to complete the assessment process from the comfort of your own home.
  • How do I prepare my home for a concierge assessment?
For those assessments that will be completed in your home, we will need a table, two chairs, and a well-lit, distraction-free setting. In order to maintain standardization and test security, we ask that only the person being tested is in the room with the clinician during the assessment itself.
  • How should I prepare myself or my child for testing day?
Get a good night's sleep, eat a good breakfast, and try to relax! You don't need to study. If your child asks, try to avoid using the word "test." You might say that Dr. Matteson is coming to do some activities with them, ask them some questions, or see what their brain is up to. It can also be helpful to show them Dr. Matteson's picture on the "About" page of this website so that they know how he looks and what to expect.
  • What can I expect from testing day?
Depending on the assessment, testing can take between 3-5 hours. We can take breaks as often as you need. Dr. Matteson uses an innovative system (Q Interactive) that utilizes iPads for a large portion of several assessments (iPads provided).
  • What areas of Indiana do you serve?
Because our general diagnostic interviews and ADHD evaluations are completed fully virtually, we can see anyone who is in the state of Indiana at the time of the virtual visit. For our concierge assessment services, we serve clients in South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Goshen, and surrounding areas.
  • Does Dr. Matteson prescribe medication?
No, as a psychologist, Dr. Matteson cannot prescribe medication. If you would like to include medication as part of your treatment plan, you can complete a Release of Information form that allows Dr. Matteson to consult with your primary care physician to make general medication recommendations.
  • Does Dr. Matteson provide other treatments like therapy?
No, Dr. Matteson only conducts the assessment with the goal of providing diagnostic clarity. He will give you treatment recommendations tailored to your specific needs, and this may include specific referrals to specialty mental health providers for therapy or counseling if needed. He may also provide accommodation recommendations for your child's school to inform a 504 plan or IEP if appropriate.
  • Do you take insurance?
We do not accept insurance. However, we can accept payment from FSA and HSA cards. We will also provide a superbill (like a receipt for medical services) that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement for out of network benefits if that is part of your plan. We recommend that you check with your insurance provider first to see if you qualify for out of network benefits.
  • What are your prices?
Our prices vary depending on the type of assessment being conducted and how long the assessment takes. If you have questions about a particular assessment or would like an estimate, please reach out to us with your specific question.
  • If I go through this process, will I walk away with a diagnosis?
Not necessarily. Dr. Matteson will only provide a diagnosis if he feels it is clinically accurate. He does not guarantee any specific diagnosis (or any diagnoses at all if none are warranted).
  • What if I don't agree with the results of the evaluation?
Dr. Matteson will make every effort to get an accurate understanding of your concerns and functioning throughout the evaluation. If you don't agree with the final outcome of your evaluation, he will listen to your concerns and re-evaluate if warranted. However, no specific outcomes are guaranteed, and Dr. Matteson reserves the right to refuse a re-evaluation if he feels the initial assessment outcome was accurate. There are no refunds for the evaluation process.
